looking at buying a 99 2.8l gu but have heard they are renouned for blowing turbo's is that true any feed back would be helpful thanks

I have a 99 gu 2.8 and never heard of them blowing turbos. They sometimes do heads. But as far as performance. There isn't anything out bush that has stopped my car

Hi. I have a 2000 GU 2.8. As stated by Lufkin, never heard about a turbo issue. Heads can be an issue later in life I hear. They have their quirks but I am really happy with mine overall.

Yeah i havent heard about them having to many issues with turbos they tend to do the heads though most that are running around these will have had the head changed by now.

Hi guys I have a 99 2.8. I had to rebuild the motor, well chose to do a full rebuild when the head cracked between cylinders 4/5 less than 3mnths after bying it, ok it had over 200 on the clock when I bought it so that might not have helped it also depends on how you treat them, look after them and they will last. Since the rebuild I have driven it from perth to Melb and not had any issues, I think it might be over fueling slightly but I just need to get around to re adjusting it.

the one ive been looking at when idleing the idle goes down about every 5seconds and blows a puff of blue smoke then the idle comes back up and is clear again any thoughts ?

Hmmm...that doesn't sound right. Should idle smooth and the blue smoke sounds like a worry. I think I would steer clear or at the very least have it thoroughly mechanically checked before going any further. There will always be another one around the corner.
