Hey all,
I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say you are all fairly experienced campers, (which i'm not really, just 4x4 tracks close to home) and was wondering what your personal basics are (head lamps, camp stoves and stuff) I'm not going to ask you to list them all, maybe your top 2 or 3? just so i have an idea of what to pick up, before i go out and realise that i've missed something important haha.
Cheers, Brendan.

Tent / swag, water / food and something to cook it with - with out these you are knackered, the rest is luxuries (talking from a survival perspective).

You would need to look at where you are going v how many people v how long you are going, once this is sorted out the gear taken generally falls into place.

For me, wifey and munchkin, the average gear we take is put into camp boxes so it makes it easier to grab and run and a lot is already stored in the rear drawers if it's just me going away :)

Cooker - normal gas burner or butane burners or both
Food / Water
Utensils - both cooking / eating including dutch oven, kettle etc
Tent / Swags / 4x4 mats and sleeping bags

1 waeco is a must for me!
2 Camp oven .. you can do anything with it cook cakes, roast, soups ..Anything!.
3 And something good to sleep on were lucky enough to have a camper trailer with a proper mattress but a good night’s sleep will do wonders

getting ready for a camping trip can be draining in its self so we have a set of utensils oil gladwrap all the stuff we take camping in the trailer so all we need to do is pack the weaco and put it in the car and a food crate and were off nice an easy. if you don’t have a trailer you can just have a few boxes dedicated to camping it makes it so much easier

It is a must to get some kind of tent/mozzie proof area. I am up north QLD and used to just swag it down south but up north get s mozzie tent. Its so bloody hot you don't want to wake up hung over and sweaty because mozzies or midgies are chewing the crap out of you, not fun at all.
Essentials are Swag with mozzie tent, something to cook on, cold beer, dunny roll, water, shovel.
