Hi i tryed fiting a Pertronix Electronic Ignition system to my tb42 today, when it was hooked up,the car started and ran ruff then stoped. Tryed to start it again and it just started to sound like the timming was out, back fireing through the carby. So i put the points back in and it started fine and Idled fine. I checked the timing and it was inbetween the 0 and the next mark. I was told that it was set at around 6 degrees bye the mechanic for the gas. My Queastion is is this the right seting and would this make it use the gas like it's going out of style and also go like a dog up hills?
Cheers Russell
One thing i forgot was that when i try to change the timing it will only go one way. So the timming mark will only go to the 0 mark.

Did you remove the dizzy?, sounds like wrong engagement of dizzy drive gears to be doing this.
Try checking TDC firing No1 and position of rotor in relation to cap contacts No 1.
you may have miss alignment here putting your timing out.
Dizzy drive gears are angle cut.
so proper alignment is only achieved once dizzy is fully seated in timing cover.
not aligned before dizzy insertion.
From memory 10 deg is petrol, and + approx 2 deg for LPG.
Cheers

Well checked the timing today. Rotated engine so no:1 piston was at top Harmonic balancer was at the 0 mark rotor button was at no: 1 on cap. Then started car and then used the timing light to set to 10degres but the distributor wouldn’t move in the right direction. So I thought that the Distributor was out 1 tooth so I changed it and it started but then the timing light was used again but it would only go to around 18 degrease or over 20 degrees. So I couldn’t get the 10 degrees that it is meant to be. So i put it back to where it was but now it will only start and run on 0 degrees. Could the harmonic balance marking be out?

Not unless key way is broken or missing.
Or balancer dampening is broken slipped ?
could it be dizzy sticking internally.
Where is the dissy lock bolt in the area of adjustment?.
a little forward of centre is getting to the right position.
