Hello
I'm new to the forum, but have had an issue today I would appreciate people's thoughts on.
We're up in Cape York and today the engine light started coming on when we hit 2000 revs. We switched the engine off, travelled slowly, and the light stayed off, but when we got over about 2000 revs it came back on again. We crawled into Bamaga and took it to the repair guys there, who tested it on their scan machine which came up code 77, spill valve. $215 later they replaced the fuel filter ($157 charge for the scan machine), but left us with a heavy warning that if the light comes back on we'll need to have the pump replaced, which can cost around $6,000!!
We've since looked up the code and it doesn't quite add up, 0706 is the spill valve code, while 0707 is for fuel injection timing control system. Will double check with the mechanics tomorrow on which code it was as their notes don't make sense.
We've since driven about 6kms, have pushed her over 2,000 revs, and light has stayed off, but we need to get back down to Cairns and are a bit concerned.
Its a 2003 3 litre Patrol. We've been through a few water crossings recently, but nothing too serious. We have come accross the top from Darwin via Borroloola though (prior to that over the Gibb) so fuel quality probably mixed over the last 5-10,000kms.
Would appreciate any thoughts on whether the fuel pump sounds to be a real possibility, and if so the costs of a replacement/overhaul.
Thanks in advance!
