Just took some pics of the patrol, they dont really show the amount of damage to the panels -car has a lot of character so to speak.

The power steering box is in the process of being replaced, just trying to locate a shaft seal - the shops keep saying go to the wreckers and the wrecker ones are all cracked. Water pump is on its way (gotta love ebay) gotta get some new plastics for the tail lights, and also the radiator overflow bottle is busted up - wreckers wanted $45 bucks for it, and new is cheaper off ebay -$30 odd bucks. There is a bit of rust along the roof that will need some attention. and i need a spare rim/wheel for it too. (15's if anyone has way lying about on the gold coast :D )

The bullet stickers will be going, and replaced with bundy ones. Or maybe real bullet holes depending on work ( some moron blew up a car bomb under the car parked behind mine at work last night -no damage or injuries but still scary) gotta love working in surfers after dark.

Well i waited all last well for a seal to come into the Nissan shop and for the power steering box. It turned out to be the wrong seal. So I just took the box down to a mob that just does power steering and they matched it up for me. Put it half back in tonight. also started on the body last night.sanded back the rust on the sill, pulled dents outta everywhere and decided a full re spray is in order.thinking dark purple.maybe black bonnet and roof.

Tomorrows to do list includes water pump, can shaft seal, new timing belt and more sanding and bogging. Power steering box in and working. First lot of big went in yesterday.also spent an hour our so today looking at paint colour books. Leaning towards purple still and a dark silver grey. Pics will come when something interesting happens.

Well that was a bit of a disaster. Got the water pump out fine.timing belt off.seal out and found that the camshaft had a grove worn in it.personally i'm all for put the seal in and forget about it.other half says pull it out send it of and get it re sleeved.that's just asking to find more problems.but anyway I have no work shop manual at this stage and as soon as bubs goes to bed I will be pulling apart everything to get this damn thing out and send it off.i'm also limited to internet on my mobile so looking for info on how to get the cam shaft out is gunna be fun.

Rear view

Its gunna be 2 tone, hence only the top being painted so far. It could have been a bit smoother in areas (especially were i had to bog up both rear quarter panels) but its a 4x4 so a bit rough is ok. Still have to do the clear coat on the top ( probably wednesday) then mask off the top and paint the bottom - will be satin black. More pics to come as it gets finsihed.

I reckon many of the trucks of members would be like mine. The body work would look better in the half dark, with a good coat of dirt or in an Avatar pic (i.e. 100 x 100 and too small to see anything).

Once she's all shined up, you'll have to take it out to a nice overgrown track to put the finishing touches on. :) Sad thing about mine is that there are no overgrown tracks here, so must all be "carpark infringements". They were before my time.

Nice to see the thread with pics showing all the hard work. Nice to see people putting in the hard yards themselves.

The paint is on!! Got some nice shiny silver mirrors off ebay to go on it. Kids were swinging off the rear vision mirror and broke it :( so gotta get that fixed up, needs mud flaps too and hopefully rego mid week. Will get pics of it up tomorrow in the light. And geez its hard to get two tone straight on them LMAO.

Yep another rb30 to pick on the diesels, personally i wanna steal the engine my other half had rebuilt for the 31 skyline, i could see an rb30et (forged pistons and to4e turbo) doing really well in it, but my other half wants to keep it for his car (hahaha not likely)

Well i officially think automobilla is a rip off!!! took it for a roady, $650 later and still no roady. pissed off here and dont mind saying so!! Apparently the new mud gaurds are to hard and if a pedestrian walks into them it will hurt (honestly if they walk into a 4x4 they should have a seeing eye dog) so spent my rego money trying to get the roady. He changed a window wiper blade, a engine mount and back brake pads. Dont know what else he reckons he did, and he tought i was rude when i told him it wasnt a good price. NOT HAPPY, and i have to change the wheel gaurds before he will give me the roady. Also it took him 20mins to find the engine number -WTF, he had to get the car manual outta a 31 skyline he had there to find were it was, yet kept braggin bout his industry experience!!! Now i have to change the wheel gaurds and if i dont get the roady im gunna take it elsewhere, after all he is going on holidays tomorrow (gee wonder why it cost so much?!?!) Not happy!

kelly
10th September 2012, 07:15 PM
Well i changed the flares, old mate who works across the road from the bloke who wrote out the roady knocked off early friday so i couldnt get the thing. then this arvo after work i went to get it and he tells me no. he wont give it to me cause it doesnt look pretty. Well i went off at him. Absolutly told him what for. His mate is on holiday for another week and the car i have been driving is running outta rego in 3 days. Not the time to play games.

Took it to my brother and he is gunna take it to a mate. I told the reception lady to just cross out the half done roady ( i know there not meant to but hell she is probably not aware they cant and he is on holiday for a week so it will be regod before he figures it out) Still after $600 bucks im not happy to have to pay for another roady. Gunna report both mobs.

The flares need 2 be soft??????? hahahaha thats a first considering they come out with fibreglass flares straight of the the showroom floor............nothing soft about them!

kelly
10th September 2012, 08:19 PM
yeah will be interesting to see if i have to change the soft ones back tomorrow to the hard ones that i had on for the next bloke to do the roady, i showed my brother the ones i took off and what was on and he thought it was stupid. Honestly with 2 kids running round here i they were sharp like they reckoned and would cut someone open - which they reckoned i wouldnt have had em on. just a pack of rip off merchants and assholes there.

11th September 2012, 09:42 PM
well took it to another bloke today, wheel flares are fine... only problem this time is its missing a wheel nut, getting a roady has just been painful. its never gunna be going outta rego!! i dont wanna go through this sorta shit fight again for a roady. and the next vehicle i buy is gunna have to come with a roady.

Hi Kelly,

Nice to see you are having a lot of fun getting your car on the road....good job....

Sounds like roadworthies up your way are just as hard as getting one down here in Victoria.

I know they are a pain in the butt, but just remember to yourself how hard they are to get, and when you are driving along you know that at least they are making an effort to ensure that you and your vehicle are safe for others on the road, and as others are coming towards you, you are as safe as you can be, driving along with someone else driving just inches away from you at times at a closing speed sometimes of 200km per hour......

Been a while since i updated stuff in here... Did a service on the troll a couple of weeks ago. Bought myself a cheap fuel saver car (mazda 121 lol) so have the troll mostly parked until i need to move things or tow things.

Changed the in tank fuel pump today. Pretty easy job, and added a bit of silicon to help stop the fuel smell through the car.

Dropped the patrol into pedders last week to see what was needed as the steering is a little all over the place. And the bloke who i got it off had put the 4inch lift kit under it and thats about all he did (shocks and springs)

Have since spent many hours looking at cheaper ways to fix her up ( quote from pedders was about $1600- that was for bushes and not the panhard rods and drag link)
Got a new steering damper for it.
Bought a polytuff bush kit off ebay with castor correction. Took the radius arms out at a mates place and took em into pedders to get the new bushes pressed in. Gunna chuck em back in this arvo.
Tie rod ends need doing, there is no rear sway bar ( and its missing a bracket) it needs adjustable panhard rods (any info on brands/ prices and what to avoid with these appreciated) then there is a drag link also needed. Oh and the brake fluid needs replacing.

waiting on the right alternator, have had problems getting the wrong one last time I got one- second hand one. So no surprise this time when my mate ordered one, got it here only to discover it was wrong. So this time sent the original one up with the new one, so they could match it up.
Cant believe the mark up on these things but, trade price (hence a mate getting it for me) $175, retail price (listed on the reciept) $359.

Might pay to get rid of the poly crap and use rubber with drop boxes, from what I have read and been told poly is crap compared to rubber and anything over a 2 or 3 inch lift your better of staying away from castor correction anyway.

still working on the alternator...sent the original up with the one that didnt fit, they matched the codes on it, and it got here and didnt fit :/ so sent that one back and got a second hand one from a skyline. Had the pulley changed and got the plugs wired up so i can connect em. Now the big problems are: need to find a test light to make sure i plug em in right, and there is a little unit on the back with an earth wire that was attached, but the new one looks like it has one permanently attached, then there are the other 2 wires that go to it, and cause it doesnt look the same as the old one im well confused as to which wire goes where lol. On a positive note, its easy enough to get the alternator itself in and out, just this damn wiring has me stumped....

the alternator drama continues..... got the wiring sorted for what goes where, but one terminal was a little small to fit over, so took the drill to it and made the whole bigger. There was also a little bush that goes where to long bolt goes and was spaced out about 2 ml, so after an hour of where is my angle grinder, i took it to a welding shop and got them to remove the excess. now for some unknown reason( i know the tensioner is in the right spot after mucking round with one in the wrong spot i checked first) but cant seem to get the belt back on, and while working on the wiring i dropped the smallest bolt somewhere onto the ground, in a lot of leaves,..... packed tools up and poured a drink. but its half in- sort of...

One little trick is advance your ignition timing a little. Every time the workshop does a tune up they reset it to factory. Runs fine. Runs better advanced s little. Cant remember the numbers but if its set to the 15 timing mark push it a little to around 17. Maybe its got to do with the age of them and wear on the valves but its much better

Looks like i havent updated this in a while. Had some fun with the troll lately. I had 2 batteries die (main one just packed it in) and the second battery in the back when i went to swap them over i discovered was leaking. 3 of my 5 33' muddies died, one just peeled whilst it was off the patrol, 1 got a screw in it, and another i ran a stick into the side wall in my travels lol.
The cancer started to show up in the roof, but finance companies said no to upgrading the patrol. So i got the rust cut out, and because id had a few fun times 4wding, i decieded to clean her up and straighten/ bog/ repair some of the body damage - which there wasn't a straight panel on her. So stripped her back to bare, reprimed everything, and went for an unusal hammertone (yep the trailer paint) tinted to a nice purple.
