I have a 1990 GQ with an 3B30E (also runs on gas) and want to recondition and turbo it...
What are your thoughts??

Was just informed that there is no turbo kit available for the RB30 and the best thing to do is put a VL engine in and build it up from there.... answered my own question lol but for anyone who was interested...

What part of Brisbane are you in?
Reco the RB30 bottom end and put an RB25DET top end and turbo on it.

I have the RB30et in mine, i like it, but i'm going to go a VQ30dett:wink:
This is quite an easy and cheapish conversion, and the specs of the stock VQ are only JUST lower than a LS1, but are a LOT better than an RB30et:bananarock:
Mind you a well sorted RB30et has enough power to keep up with most 4WD's:bigthumbup:

VQ30DETT-nice! How hard is it to adapt this to the Patrol driveline?
Will it be a custom twin turbo set up, VQ30DETT was only used in Nissan race cars?

It is pretty easy as far as i've been told, all Nissan not a single bulldust adapter in sight:049:
And there is 1 too may T's in there it should be VQ30det:redface:, but you never do know what's around the corner:049:

Even with one turbo it's still a nice engine - post '98 VQ30DET 210kw @6000rpm, 386Nm @3600rpm on 7 psi boost.

Its apparently quite easy to turbo the RB30 in the GQ's by using parts out of a VL turbo. All the injections gear is pretty much a straight swap, as is the turbo gear. Gq block already has the oil and water lines in the block, good to go.
Im planning on doing a turbo conversion in the next six months or so.

Yeah but from what I've heard they are an a$$hole engine to work on.

Nar I've worked on a lot worse.............. Like all engines thay have there good & bod points but the biggest thing is dealing with the height & reach you need when working on a Patrol so when you get used to that its not to bad at all.

I've never worked on a VQ motor, but in a big engine bay like the Patrols have it should be a lot easier to work on than say a Skyline that had the engine bay built around the motor.

I thought the VQ's were in the 300zx's? Along with a maxima I think

300ZX's had the older cast iron block VG30. Later Maxima's did get the VQ30, earlies still had the VG30.

Do you plan to post a blow-by-blow (pun intended) of the process here. I for one (and perhaps the only one) would be chuffed if you do.
Cheers,
