Certificates of competency
Loadshifting state based certificates of competency
Certificates of competency will not be required from 30 September 2011 for the loadshifting machines:
•front-end loader/backhoe operation (class LB)
•front-end loader – skid steer type (class LS)
•front-end loader operation (class LL)
•excavator operator (class LE).
Employers (or those in control of the plant) must ensure an operator has received adequate information, instruction, training or supervision so that any risks to health and safety are minimised. The fact sheet on Loadshifting machines has more detailed information about these changes including determining operator competency and other requirements.
all that is reqd now, is an onsite competency check from the EMPLOYER !

Yep, it's the biggest balls up.
We don't and will not be using this, all our operators will still need tickets. Lets see how long this lasts when a bucket lands on someones head and they wipe their hands clean and say sorry diden't know what i was doing...

Doubt that will never happen, all job adverts I see, you need 2,3,4,5 years experience. I could get tickets for 101 different things, but without experience I'm very unlikely 2 get a job with those tickets.

i suppose there is a good and a bad too it.
Smaller companies will see it as a opportunity to take short cuts to save coin. Also not having to have a whso onsite anymore makes this even more risky.
However, saying that, i was operating excavators / loaders and graders when i was 14. these days i wouldn't of even gotten a logbook !
It was nothing back in the 90's, to be thrown the keys of a 30t exc, sent out in the middle of the paddock and getting "real " experience
time will tell i guess
