Hi all ..

Does anyone know if the Oil Pressure Sender is the same between TB42 and TD42?

Does anyone know the Ohms range for the oil pressure gauge? My dash gauge is giving the following results when i put a variable resistor in-place of the oil sender:

47Ohm = 1.8 kg/cm2
24Ohm = 4.1 kg/cm2
16Ohm = 6.0 kg/cm2

The problem I am seeing is that the sender is going the opposite direction. As rpm increase, the resistance on the oil pressure sender increases. Either the sender is faulty or the oil pump.

The workshop manual doesn't show a difference in senders for the TB42 or TD42

Thanks Yendor .. that was exactly what I was looking for.

On a second note, we pulled out the sender and tested the engine with an independent mechanical gauge. Engine oil pressure was operating perfectly. When we re-installed the sender, it came good --- very odd. Ive ordered a new sender unit.

New sender unit works faultlessly. It now give the same pressure readings as per the mechanics mechanical gauge.

Good to hear. What engine do you have? TB or TD ?

I have the TD42. The sender came from a TB42, but apparently they are compatible with both engines. I didn't want to take any risks, just replaced it for $70.

Yeah I think they are well known to get a bit faulty. My gauge has a mind of its own. $70 is pretty good. I just don't know how many water crossings and mud baths it would take to stuff up again.....

Hi KL570 .. It was a Triden branded unit. I can't remember the P/N .. but I think there was only one for the GQ. It's the same P/N for petrol or diesel.
