3"exhaust, NOT mandrel bent

I have on my 4.2TDI GU a 3"exhaust with one large muffler but its not mandrel bent. All the bends have decent dents from when formed. Also there is no dump pipe from turbo so the 3" is just welded to an adapter onto original engine/turbo pipe.

I was wondering if anyone who knows a bit about exhausts could indicate whether this may be a big issue in chasing a little more HP.

I know the addition of a dump pipe definitely would have some positive effect, but how would the rest of the system handle this.

Is it worth me buying a compete mandrel bent system to replace existing?

think about the Dump pipe but the rest is not going to be that big a deal, go to Mandrel when it's knackered mate, the difference would not be measured at our level. ;)

Yeah just change the dump that thing is a good restriction.

Agreed, do the dump pipe and leave the press bent exhaust.
Press bends aren't the devil like many people make out. I've seen dyno results where a press bent system out performed a mandrel bent system - not saying its always the case, just that they're not that bad.

Can anyone recommend a decent dump pipe or are they all pretty much the same. I've seen small dump pipes that just look like a 90 deg elbow and ones that replace about 1/3rd of the exhaust system in one piece dump, engine pipe and flex joint (hurricane? ). Was considering the later as it seems a bit easier to fit and weld a flange on under vehicle rather than trying to modify the engine pipe I have.

Any suggestions?

i just got an 3" exhaust fitted the mechanic told me the dump pipe is reduced, the turbo has an 2.5" outlet
