View Full Version : Main and Sub tank drain?

Hi all,
After I picked up my new '03 GU - ZD 30 this week, I filled the sub tank, and pumped half of it to the main tank to see if the system works ok - seems to work just fine, but about 50km later after stopping for a bit and on re-start the check engine light came on - lucky I read the manual and knew the water sensor in the fuel filter also triggers that light, so I drained a bit of fluid of ( could not see what came out), but it made the problem go away, another 40km and a stop later and the same thing on restart. Drained a heap more fluid off, and since then no probs.

So I assume there might have been water in the sub-tank ( from condensation?), that was pumped to the main. The previous owner did say that he did not use the sub in the 2 years he had the wagon. I now want to drain some fluid off the sub tank, and the main tank for that matter before I pump the rest of the sub to main. Looked under, but could not find any drain plugs in any of the tanks - or are they hidden under the protection plates?

Any Ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks
Kurt

As far as I know there is no easy way. My 08 had a similar problem and the dealer said all you can do is keep draining at the filter. I am fitting a seoarate water trap to mine (Loveday got everywhere).

inside the fuel fillre cep is the return for the sub tank to the main tank
with a bit of hose pushed down this pipe you can purge the sub tank
takes quit a while to do as the plastic pipe you put in is quite small
if not sure which hole to use take fuel caps off start pumping fuel fromsub tank look in filler neck and then you will see wwhich hole to use

Thanks for that -will have a look at that option!! Come to think of it, wonder if I can intercept the sub return line, or disconnect somewhere and just pump straight out?? Will have to go and have a looksy!

Thanks
