hey guys, any one got any ideas on what would cause my car from doing this every blue moon to every time i hit a bumpy spot of road, the vehicle starts a wobble in the steering wheel at around 70 to 90 kmh and goes to an uncontrollable shake and shudder until you brake it down to almost a dead stop.....???

Check all steering joints for play by getting some one to rock the steering wheel back and foward while you look at the joints. Most wheel wobbles would start from out of balance wheels so get the front wheels balanced also.

Will check again, but already did that..I re balanced the wheels the first few times it happened and it was good but when i re balanced them recently it had no effect..someone suggested it may be coming from the rear but its the worst thing to spot..will let u know how i go,cheers krogh

Bad steering, suspension joints and rims out of round are the probable cause.
Wobble shake common problem.
post all over the forum about this dreaded shake

I'll start at beginning for you. Check:
All steering joints, they should be firm. Tie rods, Ball joints etc.
Wheel bearings, pivot bearings(king pins).
Spring Bushes, Shocky Bushes, Steering Dampner Bushes.
Shockies & Steering Dampner.
DO NOT! Be sucked into believing replacing steering dampner first wll fix your shake. It will only leson it, and youwill still have wobble.
MOST wobble is caused in the Wheel and Pivot Bearings when you have worn bearings and/or shims. Replace with Jap bearings. I suggest avoid Trojan Bearings.

If its a spring front end patrol , itll be the spring bushes and shackle bushes
Also just for good measure get the rims and tyres balanced and check the tyres age
Old tyres could be starting to seperate in the belts
But the occasional wobbles after a bump here and there, id go for the bushes as mentioned

could also be the bushes in the steering linkages coz it has the weird idler arm set up. I have a workshop manual for an Mk if you need it. I got rid of my Mk about a month ago so dont really need it.

mine did that when i first got it. turned out to be flogged out shackels. they looked fine even when on the car. jack the car up so the diff hangs and shake it side to side. u should b able to tell if its the shackels

i have the same issue a cheapish start for me is im going to replace the panhard rod bushes and see how that goes but yeah i can sit on 110klm's on the highway fine but yeah get a real bumpy section of road then she goes off like a paint mixer on the steering wheel pretty much having to stop to get back to normal

Its called a relay lever, the idea its helps to eliminate bump steer by reducing the angles of the arms to a more neutral position.but at the same time more to wear out.
hope this helps, cheers.
