View Full Version : LS1 Fuel Consumption, drive-ability and tow-ability?

Hi everyone.

As I mentioned in my introduction post I'm considering replacing my near new triton with a GU patrol so I can use it in the bush with fear of damage. I do however want more power from one if I go down that road. Enter the engine conversion.

At this stage I'd be going for either a 6.5ltr diesel or an LS1. I'm leaning towards the LS1 only because I believe it would be a more cost effective conversion (correct me if I'm wrong).

I have done a search in the engine forum for all posts with LS1 in them but didn't realy find anything that spoke about how well the conversion is going after the fact. IE, Fuel consumption, driveability, towing ect.

So, are there any LS1 GU owners out there that would be willing to share a little bit about the conversion and how its working out for you?

As I'm only in the initial stage of this project I'm trying to gather as much info/advice as I can so I can make an informed decision.

I'll be putting up a similar post about the 6.5ltr diesel also.

Cheers in advance

Dan

One thing to add to this. Today I had a local 4WD shop advise me it would cost approx $30,000 for a LS1 conversion. Is this typical or a little expensive?

it can be really expensive to do an engine conversion.

what I would do is get a patrol with a 4.2 diesel and spend the conversion money on working that. I wont make as much power as an ls1 but it will make more power and torque than a standard 6.5l
