View Full Version : How to tell if my GU is lifted.

Dumb question I know but I have been out of the 4wheelin game for 15 years. I recently bought a GU, they said it has a 2inch lift. When I looked at the car I saw it has OME shocks fitted so I just assumed they were correct. But having a closer look, I'm thinking maybe its just new shocks and stock springs as they look like stock springs to me. But I'm no expert.
So How could I tell if it has a 2inch lift or not? With the 33's under it there's about six inches between the top of the tyre and the guard. So if it hasn't I will be getting some new spring for it...

Thanks.

The best way is to measure it.

Not sure what yours is but mine is 2000 GU ST and it is standard. I have just been out and measured it.

Measuring from the bottom of the standard 16 inch steel wheel to the guard is 760mm approx. front and rear. Measuring from the centre of the wheel to the guard is 545 approx. front and rear. Now mine is parked on a bit of an angle and the suspension has probably been on their from the time it was built so it might have dropped a bit.

i hope that helps.

Mine sits at 580mm front centre of hub to the guard so I'm guessing it is lifted. Thanks.

for a quick look if you are running 16" rims & 33's the top of your rear tyre will sit above the top of the chassis rail x appx 40-50mm, 33's & a 2" lift will have the top of the tyre level with the top of the chassis, 33's & a 3" lift should have the chassis visible by appx 1" across the top of the tyre, otherwise check with a tap measure, bottom of the rim to the base of the gaurd would be appx 840mm give or take 10mm depending on the stiffness of the spring, sag etc

There was a thread a few days ago with measurements for 2" lift. Varied a bit but you'd be able to get a ballpark figure
