Whats the worst mod you have done to your patrol?

Mine would have to be the fiasco of fitting reverse lights. Bought a great light bracket which was 100% bolt on from a guy on eBay, fitted it up, ran the wire and then mounted the new, you-beaut 27w LED light which promised to turn night into day. Crap. It didn't. It was barely visible.

So I took it off, fitted a 55w driving light, but it was a cheapy too and it doesn't project as good as it should. It only shows a strip on the ground, despite being a spread beam, no matter how I adjust it.

Right, I'm pissed off now, so I bought 2 LED globes for replacements of the original filament globes. eBay specials, and they weren't cheap and again, they promised to basically be as bright as a strobe light. Fitted them and again, bloody useless.

So i'll look around for another light to mount on the bracket and this bloody time i'm going for a 100w flood light to really brighten things up.

What is the most useless or worst mod you did to your truck?

Have you tried hooking the 27 watt light directly to a battery?
Are you getting a full 12 volts at your connection at the back?
Seems suss all the lights are dim.

Yeah sound like your wiring is no good or something. Best bet is as above, try lights directly on battery and measure the voltage at the rear.

Does it need a relay?

I should have left basic mechanics to the experts.

One really, really cold morning, I checked the oil by pulling out the dipstick. I was shivering that much that when I was putting the dipstick back in,
it flexed onto the battery.

Sparks flew everywhere and the oil on the dipstick caught fire. It was a Kodak moment.

Did it a second time, but thankfully, haven't done it since.

Take care out there.

Haha know that feelin Rosco. I had a Toyota Corona I was given after my XR6 was written off. Had a carby problem. So I pulled the carby off, started tinkering and fired it up. Fired, alright. Left the carby on my workbench... Fuel sprayed from the fuel pump into the manifold and it started, then once it revved, it sprayed fuel everywhere and ignited. Luckily (I think) I shut it off and saved it, but ended up giving the car away again.

Re my lights, yes I connected the first LED to my jump pack and it's crap. I've tested the wire and there's 12v there, the light on it now cost me $25 so can't expect much. It's bright, but has a bad light pattern. The LED replacements in the actual tail lights are definitely cleaner, they're white, not the normal yellow, but the seller promised 'super bright racing type brilliant light'. It is all caused by me trying to make cheap chit work and not spending the $.

worst mod, hmmmmmm, well i only just bought my patrol (off evilbay) but it already had checkerplate door trims, they look so nasty, i hate them. I guess they might be good if the GQ goes for a swim but if that happens door trims will be the least of my concearns.

My worse mod was trying to get a fancy Iphone holder to take videos whilst out and about.

I stole the split system remote control holder from the house, screwed it to some timber, painted it grey and velcro'd it to the dash...LMAO

It lasted about a week then I broke the handles that held the phone in place....Misses still dark at me for that one!!!

It actually worked a treat, nice and steady...I jumped in the Patrol late one night and pushed the phone into the holder rather then slide it downwards and just snapped the arms that held the phone/air con controller in place....Bummer, It really worked good...lol

I modded my rear door. Reversed out my mates driveway and had to change my angle to avoid the illegally parked car and backed right into a bloody tree. Luckily no major damage, the bumper is being replaced anyway and I'll eventually get a new door. That was a bad mod.
