Hi ASH68
Sorry to hear that mate.
How many K's has it done and what do you mean by blown up. IE cracked pistons / block
Have you taken it to a mechnic and if so what was there advice on the blow up ?

Ah the grenade factor!! Jump over to the intros and say gday mate something we ask all members to do. The grenade can have mods done very easily to stop it from detonating

put a td4.2 I think it's about 10 000 fort he change if you do some of the work. As about what actually happened to the motor and check out the nads to make it better. a rebuild is like 6000 so may as well do the swap.

Hi Bud,

Sorry I agree with Todd.

Going by your first post it doesn't seem you have come here seeking advise but rather to vent.

If this is the case, sorry don't want to hear it. The problems with this model (even the later ones) have been well documented.

If this is not the case and you are genuinely seeking advise then post a thread in the introduction section, let us know what has been done to your rig and we can move on.

Their are plenty of people on here who can help.

Cheers Rodney

i have come seeking advice .i love my patrol but im trying to work out if i should fix it because every diesel mechanic i have spoken to has a different opinion on why they blow up .and coming from a drag racing back ground i where we build cars from the ground up .i need to know the cause before i rebuild it .

Most of the 3 litre failures are due to the mass air flow sensor sending incorrect air flow data and raising the exhaust gas temps to a dangerous level and hence the "Grenade" name.

Have a read of this below mate, it explains it in more detail and things you can do if you want to head down that path.

I think the 25 posts is to download the manuals unless it's a member locked thread?? It's easy to get 25 posts just go to the new members section and say hello to a few new members and join in on some conversations and you'll get 25 posts in no time

Not a member locked thread

Ash are you referring to downloading the Nissan Patrol Reference Document?

G'day ash, not owning a GU I haven't been looking for this info, it may be tucked away in the other threads linked above, apart from the manuals. My eyes gla2e over a bit when reading about NADS and Dawes valves and all that stuff. I've only just adapted to a Pertronix electronic points set in my GQ :-)

If it is in the manuals, then, I don't really savvy all this computer stuff, but I understand that it costs a fair bit to set up the system to cope with people downloading the manuals. That's why the bloke who owns the place, and the mods who do the voluntary work keeping it all ticking over for us ask that we post 25 posts.

I didn't find it that hard to do when I joined - some semi reasonable posts that relate to earlier topics of conversation in threads, a response to this, and you'll be there in no time. Tell us a bit about your other car - there are some others on here who also drive speedy cars - not me, sadly, I wish :-)

I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, but in answer to your question, yes, there is another way to get the manuals, but not the resource doc, and that is buy them from Nissan or a tech bookshop.

Good luck with it Ash, and hope to read more from you on here.
