Hi Everybody,

I had a bit of a mishap driving back from ALice Springs to Melbourne over the weekend with my faithful 99 Gu Patrol (2.8 turbo diesel).
The nut holding the crankshaft pulley or harmonic balancer worked its way loose enough for the pulley to wear out its key on the crankshaft, resulting in a premature end to our road trip in a christmas tree of lights on the dash and a cloud of steam. :1087:

Talking to a few mechanics, the main consensus is that it would most likely be better to try and source a replacement motor instead of trying to patch or replace the crank. Its not really known what damage if any was done from the over heating. The engine was tinkling a bit while cooling down on the side of the road.

Does anybody know of any where in the Melbourne area that will sell and fit reconditioned or secondhand engines?

Any leads for me to follow or info of any sort would be most appreciated...

What to get the old girl back on the road again.

Thanks,

Tim
