turbo GQ

sorry guys if this is a stupid question, did any of the gq series come out with a turbo engine i was told they didnt today? if they did wot was the difference from the n/a engine, i was looking for one to put in my GQ ute?

They did. But only in the RD28 which was a inline 6 cylinder 2.8L turbo diesel. If you are looking for an engine for your ute a 4.2 would be the go. A factory turbo one would be best but turboing a na motor will also give good results and has been done a million times.

Very easy to put the turbo on afterwards mate and there is a DIY thread about it on here. If you go down that path then let us know as It's an easy job.

i have an n/a td42 im in the middel of changing the head gasket, i was planning on selling that to buy a factory 4.2 turbo eng do u think fitting a turbo to this n/a engine will be a cheaper option?

Most probably if your not power hungry a turboed na td42 will last you forever

Hi Matt,

Just an idea how I did mine. This is how I mod my exhaust manifold for a top mount turbo on a n/a, silver top TD42. Its a poor man set up and the flow were not as good as the after market manifold but it works fine and I managed to get 22psi (peak) boost out of it with only little adds on..12mm plunger to the fuel pump and a front mount i/cooler.

There was only a handful actually sold in aus. just like auto td42 go's only 300 ever came here.

yeah mate heads off an getting machined iv got a turbo was going to buy an ebay manifold but seeing your mod on the stock on might give that a go, is that an n/a manifold with the tubo flange welded on?

has anyone here tuned their pump after the turbo install? I know i can fit everything up but what is involved to get it to run correctly?

same boat richo, ok puttin it all together got no clue about the tune supposed to be a matter of tuning the pump for more or less diesel to get a specific exhaust temp i think 500 deg how u read that or where the screw is got no idea i think il just take it to a shop and get em to tune it all sweet then if i melt it its not cause i stuffed 20 pounds into it with a crap tune
