Can I run a snorkel from my seat to outside the car to prevent toxic fumes from killing those I have been pressured into chauffeuring?

Actually, No My real question is as follows.

I would like to fit a snorkel to my troll but have heard that it can affect the way your engine runs if you have LPG. Can anyone shed some this?

Cheers!

You will need to put a balancing pipe on for LPG but I have heard that you can get away with this by just facing the snorkel backwards to reduce the ram air effect (forcing air inside when not accelerating).

Hopefully someone else can confirm this mate.

Hi Punder.... I have a TB42 with lpg and it runs sweet without a "balancing" pipe. Ive heard about them but mine runs fine without it. The gas system was overhauled before i bought the car and is nice and fresh so it runs well. The snorkel is also a remnant of the previous owner and is a home made job so maybe it doesnt have as much "ram air" effect that people talk of.

My brother has been running a snorkel on his tb42 with a impco 300a mixer with out any problems. He has tried the head facing back and forwards made no difference.

Depends on what type/brand if gas mixer the system is running. Some dont seem to require the balance pipe.

I had a system that did require the pipe but never had it fitted. Being a manual it would only ever stall out if you pushed the clutch in and coasted over about 40km/h.
Down changing as per normal never had a problem, particularly if blimping the throttle.
On some really windy days when sitting at the lights the idle would sometimes fluctuate, but would never stall out.

I drove the car with the snorkle on backwards for mud running etc, you could tell the difference as you coasted to a stop at the lights with casual downchanging. But not enough difference to make me run it like that all the time.

If you had an auto, the balance pipe would have to be done to make the car safe imo.

Cheers

I recently fitted a snorkel to my duel fuel 4.5 litre GU and mine wouldn't get out of the driveway without fitting a balancing tube. I even fitted a safari sock in my snorkel as well as the balancing tube just to be sure. I've only recently had a new convertor and gas computer fitted to mine to as it had been running rough for a while on gas.

Since fitting the snorkel, balancing tube, new convertor and computer it actually goes just as well on gas as it does on fuel which it's never done since I owned it. Now mine doesn't fluctuate at all even on windy days or jaming the brakes on hard which I think most of my problems where caused by a dodgy convertor. Mines also an auto so having it stall is never good.

The sad part about doing this mod is I had to get the info off the internet myself as 2 different gas installers I spoke to hadn't heard of the mod before.:1087:

Cheers Mick.

I booked my GQ 4.2 efi petrol/gas into ARB today ( for next week ) to get a snorkel fitted, I was told by ARB that there is a chance that the snorkel may cause my gas to run lean and thus cause overheating and or stalling, they said its just a matter of going to a local gas guy to get a fix done( if its a problem) they even recommended one to me :)

I have been trying to find out where to connect the bypass pipe up to and from but cant find any decent info, even two gas company's said they haven't heard of it and I wanted to pay them to do it not just get the info out of them.
GQ 4.2 EFI by the way.

Mine(TB42s, OMVL system) would stall on gas when I fitted the snorkel until I fitted a balance pipe going from the dirty side of the airbox back to the converter to equalise the pressure on the diaphragm.

Hey Irish! You got any photos of your set-up? Been looking at getting a snorkel set-up but too hesitant until i can visualise the balancing pipe setup...Cheers

Mine is pretty agricultural, just drilled a hole in the airbox, screwed in a barbed fitting and epoxied it in place to seal.
Then ran some spare heater hose back to the converter.

Here's the only pic I have:

If I get a chance I'll take some more pics.

It instantly sorted out the stalling issue and it ran beautifully on gas, needs a re-tune now though.

One thing I will say is to make sure when you install the snork, that you seal the entire intake.

Mine isn't sealed properly and I found dried muddy water in the intake after a recent trip to Tallarook.

Thanks for the pic Irish, where does the pipe connect to in the converter is there a single air intake on it?
Why does it connect to the dirty side of the airbox?

been working with other problems on a impco 300a and came across the air intake specs for this model and no way a snorkle would affect it and if i wanted to somehow force more air into it they actually have the nessaccary stuff and worksheets to show you how to adapt the carb to allow for high air flow .
just look at the impco website,
