Just bought a 2007 GU Patrol ute, I noticed when I hit the sub tank button it seem to empty the sub tank into the main tank. Where as with the V8 Landcruiser utes you run ether main or sub tank separately. Is this how the Patrol utes are set up??

yes mate, they pump back into the main tank. there is only an inline fuel pump between the two.

The sub tank is pumped into the filler neck of the main tank and fills slowly via the electric fuel pump in the subtank.

Hey Mick, i notice that is your first post mate, head over to the Introduction section and post up an intro mate, we like folks to say g'day before they ask questions. Kinda like walking into a room for the first time, its polite ;)

Welcome to the forum mate.

Thanks mate, I will head there now and say G'day.

So when I hit the sub tank button to fill the main tank does the sub tank pump shut off when the fuel has transferred into the main tank automatically or does the pump keep running till i hit the sub tank button again?
If the pump keeps running id expect a few people end up letting the pump run dry and damaging it.

it stops mate. also when the main tank id below 3/4 full every time you start the car the sub will purge into the main tank for 10 seconds I think so don't worry if you see it slowly going down and you thinking there's a fuel leak
