G'day All,
I've had a '92 GQ 4.2 DX patrol for 11 years, bought it with 160K, now just ticked over 300. I've looked after it and doesn't look any worse for wear after all the years. Not saying I haven't used it though, In the early days my mates and I did alot of fire trails and beach driving on the south coast of WA, with the odd mud bash in between.
Being stock when I bought it of the 2nd owner it only had a steel winch bar and high mount winch (ex NSW police fitted). Since then I've added snorkel, due batteries, EPRIS, 32" mudders, 2" lift, draws, extractors ect.
140Km of trouble free motoring. Just the usual stuff, like breaks, tappets, alternator, injectors and pump
I may have reached the end of an era with the big girl though. With 3 kids now, I feel it might be a good time to upgrade for safety and comfort and the 3rd row seats.
I now am facing the decision many have had to make before me, 3L or another 4.2? I am leaning towards another 4.2 that will do another 10+ years. I read threads on this topic with interest
Cheers
Eric
