Hi there, Just bought a second hand bull bar for my 98 GU. A bloke at work told me to disconnect the battery before undoing the old bumper as it might set off the air bag. Is this true and is that all i need to worry about?

not sure mate bout the bag going off, i wouldnt think so but it only takes 2 seconds to disconnect it as a precaution.
only other thing would be if its an airbag compatible bull bar if its a custom job i wouldnt think so.

Your right 2 seconds is the cheaper option. also the bar is an A.R.B. air bag compatible.

No sensors on the bar or its brackets itself, ive changed mine a few times (alloy to xrox and back again) without disconnecting battery (99 GU wag)

Depending on the bar may have to wire up extra indicator/parking lights (easier to run wires while bar off)

Just a thought...but if the bull bar is changed, then does that mean the air bag is rendered useless? I have an ARB on a 98GU, and would be good to change the steering wheel with something that feels nicer if its not going to do much anyway.......

If your car had a Airbag fitted from new, you must ONLY fit a Air Bag compliant bar (that meets ADR 69), plus you are not allowed to replace the steering wheel with a non airbag wheel anyway.

ADR 26 compliant wheels for airbags I think - you can swap them, but they MUST be fitted by a licensed fitter and be engineered thereafter.
