I have a persistant oil leak from the sump, it is closer to the rear & the Mecho said he cant access the last 2 bolts of the sump to get it out to reseal, it is clearly the sump that is leaking & has done so for 3 yrs or so but it is now worse as to be expected, he come back saying he thinks he needs to pull the gearbox out to get at the last 2 bolts, is this bunk or for real? seems to me to be a really stupid design if this was the case? I am chasing clarification, has anyone been down this road before?

Not sure on the 3 litres mate but hopefully someone with one can help you out.
I would be surprised as well....Have you had a good look underneath yourself?

Yes you need to split the engine and box to access the rear sump bolts.
