Hey guys. After some advice on how to swap my Turbo on my 2000 ZD30. It recently packed it in on me whilst heading up the blue monutains. I was on a nice hill and dropped from 4th gear to 3rd when it lost all power and blew smoke everywhere. Managed to get it the short distance back home after disconnecting the turbo and finding oil all through the intercooler. Both have now been fully removed with the intercooler being cleaned out and i plan to swap the turbo with a spare from a 2008 model patrol. The turbos are exactly the same with the only difference being the newer one is oil cooled only. The swap itself isnt to difficult but i do not know how to block the water hose off. Any advice on how to do this and what is needed would be great.

I also have the engine i have got the spare turbo from which is in top nick only having done 40,000km. (uninsured prang) :( i dont think im meant to have Patrol somehow. I plan on swapping this into the 2000 model over the coming months. Is this possible to do? The engine and gearbox will mount fine but im more worried about wiring etc.

The swap is a bit of a nightmare. I looked at this not long ago. Computers are different and the entire wiring loom has to be changed. An auto electricians nightmare.

Cheers Frank. I figured that would probably be the case. What did you end up doing? Did you get it quoted?

Sorry can't help with the turbo question, hopefully someone else can.

I have heard of one person fitting a common rail engine to an early GU and the electrical side was the hardest part.

The last I heard he still has problems but the engine is running.
