View Full Version : Heater does't completely turn off

As the heading says the Heater does't completely turn off.
I'm guessing there is a flap that has a foam seal and the foam is no good.
Just wonderin if any one has repaired theirs and can give me a heads up where it is and what parts I will need.
It's a bit of a pain on a warmer day but don't notice it during winter.
It's worse after the car is parked for a while, a short blast of AC fixes it for a while but it blows hot air again in a few minutes.

This will sound silly Macca but set your heater to not hot or cold or move it to more on the cold side and you will find it will be fine mate. If you have it set on Max heat then the residual flow will fill the cab. Let's face it it's only the fan that turns on and off there is No electro if solenoid switch there just the fan to control the flow. With the fan turned off the heat is kind of bleeding through the system.

I get the same thing in both my patrols, my XR6 and so on

Adjust the temp control, it's variable.

Hope that helps mate. Give it a go.

If you set the air to recycle you won't get that.

The heater only runs off your heater tap. The flap is for recirc or fresh. Check the heater tap is closing completely. May need to remove cable to check. There are usually adjusters on the cable somewhere, probably under the dash at control end. :)

Yep tried that Muddy with no luck.
We like fresh air Kristo but will give it a go to see what happens.
Rip'n the heater in the Patrol allways has hot water flowing through it. I know this because the shower does not need to have the heater on to heat up. Most modern cars are like that now. I've even thought about installing a valve in the heater circuit to stop hot water in that circuit. Worried about what that might do to the cooling system.
I'm going to have to pull it apart I'm gettin convinced of that. Burger... really dont want to.
A visit to Nissan to look at their diagrammes might be in order... keep you posted.
Keep the ideas coming, I've only been putting up with this for 18 months, I know i'm slack.
Cheers Macca

Like you said, if it's a GQ they dont have heater taps. Coolant is flowing through the heater core all the time, the only thing that stops the hot air is the vent but the seals wear out. You can get an aftermarket heater tap put in so the hot coolant bypasses the heater core. Works a lot better for cool fresh air.

I had that problem with my last patrol and all it was was the outer cable on the heat control had slipped through its retaining clamp and was not moving the arm on the tap to the fully closed position. Pull out the glovebox and have a play with the cable

I have the same problem and my brother's GU has it too. I thought it was a trait of the patrol and needed to tuffen up. But now the glove box is coming out and I'll start fiddling. Thanks for info. Great forum is this.

My gq still heats and cools with the fan off, solution on cold days turn to demister and feat on full heat no fan open window for fresh air, perfect climate, warm feet but rest is perfect

Chubba my GU does this too. My theory is that the engine bay heat is soaking through the firewall.

So you think it's a patrol idiosyncrasy as well mudski.

Yeah well last summer on a hot day i stuck my hand up behind thd dash and on the firewall. It was pretty warm. Not surprised its radiating through.
