I wonder where is located temperature detector because mine gauge hand get crazy jumping from zero to high independent of real temperature.

On what motor mate? and most commonly they are located near the thermostat housing.

Yeah near the thermostat housing or on the 2.8td along the head near firewall drivers side below injectors & Glow plugs.

You mean in Australia because I've found it as you write but oposite to drivers side (in my patrol driver seat is on the left side) ;)

Yeah me in Australia so yeah on the left side of engine as you look at it from the front of car.

Just show how easy us Aussies forget of factory modifactions for countries that drive on the wrong side of the ride. Hahahaha.

I had this problem when I first bought my 92 GQ 4.2 petrol, I found by adding a nice big dob of solder onto the top of the sensor to stop the connector turning/and or vibrating solved the problem

A few cm of insulating band has solved the problem. It was a dodgy connection.

had the same problem with my TB42 carby and used the same fix. Just soldered the connection up and works perfectly now, just reads marginally higher than standard because of the extra resistance in the connection.
