Cpu???

G'day all,

Have not long gone from a 3.0 litre (2002) to a 4.2 (2000) Was at the stage where I knew the 3.0 back to front, now have to start again with the 4.2. My question is though, when did they start using computers? Does the 4.2 have CPU? I am fairly sure that my model doesn't, its old school and believe me, after the 3.0 ending up in a ploom of smoke, I am loving old school.

The TD42 does have an ECU but doesnt do much
Later TD42ti models have the fuel pump advance and egr running through one, they pick up a throttle position sensor and runs security system NATS too.
I just had a crook connector to advance solonoid give problems and I too was keen to go back to older model. Didnt stop but ran poorly, to give credit the ECU shut the solonoid off after a while and it drove fine just below performance

Cheers Jet, is a 2000 model 4.2 worth chipping? Would there be any advantage? What does the CPU do in this model?

Fuel pump is not electronic. Find a good diesel shop and get them to play with the pump and turbo to get best out of it.
