Hey all you Patrol Guru's:wink:

I can hear my 2008 ST 3.0L Patrol makiing a ticking noise when it runs.
Is this just the injectors?
Is this normal?
Should i be concerned?

Thanks in advance.

Paul

might be a loose tappet

OK. Is it something i should be worried about?
It sounds like it is a multiple clicking sound like maybe all 4 injectors?
Is it possible?

I doubt it's the injectors you simply won't hear em from inside cab with mtr running.
seriously you can barely hear a bad one standing over the engine, and then you'd be really struggling to pin point it.
An injector work/not working can usually be felt with a finger on it's body, like checking for your own pulse.

I'm with roofy, tappets.

Mate, it could be the fan belt, they can make noises like tappets, injectors and blown manifold gaskets ( I would look at that one).
Spray some water on the belt while it's running and see if it stops for a moment.
Stick some garden hose in yer ear and have a listen around the motor, watch out for the fan.
Just pretend you are a Doctor LOL.

I would also check the pulley on the front of the alternator, when mine when it made a loud clicking type noise.

As has been said they are a noisy engine, have you compared yours to another same model Patrol?

When was the last oil change. The oil may have thinned out and that's why you ar hearing tappets etc.

would check tappet clearances first before doing anything
