Just want to start a thread to see what people have been booked or warned for (or got away with) in their 4by? Alot of us have mods that may be bordering legal depending on interpretations of the law and its different in different states so it will be interesting to hear some stories. I will start things off.

In far north QLD a mate and i rolled a 4by. We were near a road and not supposed to be driving where we were. It was lifted about 5" with 35's. No one was hurt and the cops didn't book us and were really good about it all. I though for sure a fine was coming our way.

Got warned about a flare that I had ripped off the day before - said I hadn't had time to reattach it, he let me off, but said if he saw me without it again, he would book me!

Cheers!

spotties on top of the bull bar, but i can clearly see the road 10 meters in front of me and the law says 11 maximum.
spotties protruding from the front of the bullbar

overloaded...... this was by the heavies.

i had a 2 tonne double axle trailer fully loaded, plus the back of my wagon fully loaded when i moved up to darwin. while heading up a long incline ( no more than 15 degree i reckon) i was doing about 60kmh. watched as the heavies passed, then slowed down and pulled back behind me and pulled me over. they asked why i was going so slow when i have a v8 chev diesel in my truck. after discussions about my trailer being full and my truck being full, they brought out the scales my truck weighed in 650kg heavier than gvm, my trailer weighed in at 1700kg over gvm giving me a grand total of 2350 over gcm or calculated at the time at $1 per kilo fine. or $2350 fine

after much discussion regarding suspension upgrades on the patrol and suspension and brake and tyre and drawbar and chassis and floor upgrades on the trailer they let me be on my way with a warning to change my trailer bearings as soon as i hit darwin

I have never been done for anything other than 1 speeding fine in the 4x4.

Got Lucky often on the Road bike though ;)

Just after i got my Triumph Daytona T595 back in 1997, i bought one in the first batch that was imported and they were as rare as hens teeth. I put this wicked twin exhaust on it and mine was the prototype for the bloke that was making them.

Cruising back from Melbourne to Geelong one Sunday morning cruising at about 140km/h on the FWY past the Western Ring Road, Next thing this unmarked copper was sitting beside me with his lights and sirens going! He'd had to get beside me for me to hear him! ;)

I looked down and thought DAMN! Your Nicked!.

I pulled up and got off the bike, took the helmet off and he walked up to me, I was fairly Sh1tting myself. He said "Nice bike mate!" I said "Cheers mate, i love it" he said " I saw you go past and noticed the pipes mate, i make them on teh side and was pretty keen to have a look! "

I rolled a smoke and stood there on the side of the Fwy for 10 minutes talking bikes! told him i just didn't hear him till he was beside me, "Yeah it sounded great! No problem mate!"

His parting words........ "I better look like i am doing something, can i have a look at your license sir?" "No Problem Officer!"

"You have a Great day!" :trink13: :Yahoo!:

I got booked doing 60km/h in a 50 in my old 60 series land cruiser going down hill. There's no way in hell he would have booked me for speeding going up hill. LOL

Other then that I got pulled over in my GQ which had 37s and a 6 inch lift when I was younger. The police and RTA had the whole highway blocked off and doing defects on anything and everything. After waiting 5 minutes and totally shitting myself the cop come up to my door and said your right mate where not after guys like you and let me go. I was just about to drive off when he came back to my window quickly asked asked why I have 2 valves on each wheel. I explained I had internal bead lockers and told him what there for. He told me that was a great idea and asked where he can get them from.

So I've never had any dramas with police or the RTA for that matter with any of my 4wds which have all been pretty heavily modded. Other then tyres they have all been totally road legal though which I think if you take pride in your 4wd and don't drive around with busted lights, flares hanging off or covered in mud I think your pretty safe.

Cheers Mick.

Hasn't hindered me at all. I drove a modified Falcon for around 6 months and did not get pulled over once, except for an RBT.
Patrol is no different.

Yeah im not a p plater but i know my younger brother has a lot of dramas with being picked up here in qld he drives a brand new unmodified 4cyl and gets nabbed all the time has also spent nalry an hour at a cop shop in my fourby while they tried to find something to get him for

i got hassled sh1t loads when i was younger in my commodore too, and was never doing anything wrong, cops just hate young blokes driving around.

I'm glad to hear good stories about the cops, especially the one about the triumph, i have not had any dramas with them lately and they don't even look at my 4x4's. I'm sick of the TV (Today Tonight) always bagging out hoons and branding motoring enthusiasts as hoons, but i'm happy to hear the lighter side of it all. I guess alot of police and transport authority workers are enthusiasts as well and probably have quite a few members on this forum. Its hard to keep up with all the new laws and its good to hear what the police seem to look out for and what they don't.

I got pulled up once in my VH commodore after doing a teeny tiny skid and they asked why if there was any reason why i was driving like that.........ummmmmmm...........damn i could not come up with anything.
Not sure how much they will like my fresh built XB coupe running 472ci big block when i finally get it pieced back together. there is no substitute for cubic inches!

Thanks for the stories and keep them coming

They might not like it, but I do! There is no replacement for displacement.

I was standing beside a cop when my son drove his chopped and 6 inch lifted GQ straight down a 4foot washout onto a beach and the cop turned to me and said. "Check out the tyres on this badboy" ( 33" or 35" can't remember i'm happy with 31s) I told him thats my lad and then we had a disscussion about the chop and the lift and he said he liked the fact that we had done 2 things. Good flares to cover the tyres (garden edging from Kmart) and good rear mudflaps (a truck mudflap split down the middle) to stop rocks being thrown at other drivers. He got pulled over once in it at one of those pull over and check every car on the highway days and the only thing they said was "We noticed your brake light flickered a couple of times as you stopped, can you check it when you get home. (I told him it was his good looks that got him off. Gets it from his dad LOL)

Got pulled over at an rbt whilst on my red p's. Heard a cop say 'lets get this guy for something' he must have looked over the car for 20 mins before walking away with a scowl on his face and not saying a word.

Got pulled over for driving all over the road, they breathalyzed me,

I blew .123, the cop shook his head, and said "what the hell are you doing driving????" I replied " mate I`m to pissed to walk, I would be a danger of getting hurt if I tried" , cop said "good point" and they let me go!!!!!

I thought at one stage there they were getting more horsepower out of a motor than its actual displacement for eg 1400hp out of a 1200cc donk etc.

nothing in the 4x4 but used to get pulled over nearly every weekend in a yellow escort panelvan 1.3ltr. Once the cop asked if I have any guns, drugs or dinamite in the car. WTF. It did 110kms/hr down hill flat out. Had a obscured numberplate fine on my motorbike at rbt.

Hmm not too sure if I should be sharing this but I lost my license for 6 months when I was 19 in my first 4b. It was at about 3am, I was driving home from the city, doing 45ks over the speed limit(125 in an 80 zone on the m5)falling asleep at the wheel. It was the night I lost my virginity, which was in a 3some with a married couple(no gay stuff tho) so I was really buggered I'd bee rooting for hours hahah. But I thought it was worth the 6 month suspension.
