I was working real hard at work tonight when i found an add in 4wd Action mag about a wireless tire pressure monitoring system or TPMS. I have never seen these before but then again i have been living under a rock with my eyes shut and fingers in my ears.
It seems most of these sytems have sensors that go inside the tire so i would need to get take my rig into the shop. but there are a few cheap (made in taiwan) models that just have screw on caps ontot the valve stem with a locking nut. They are abouyt $180 on ebay compared to the other ones over $300 in shops.
Has anyone had any experience with these? Seem like an awesome idea and i want to get a set (i love gajets). I guess my concera is that i might rip them off and stuff the valve stem in serious off road situations or they will just not work very well, dunno, i need some advice from you all.
Cheers - Richo:confused:

As you said would be easy to tear off if buried in mud etc. Plus their reliability could be questionable always being out in the weather, 4wding etc. I would spend the dollars and get the ones fitted to the inside of your tyre. Nice and sealed and relatively watertight plus getting them over here from a dealer you will probably get some form of warranty.

I had a set of Tyredogs, screw transmitter unit onto valve stem. They worked great ............... until driven on corrugated roads. The rubber valve stems flexed with the weight of the units, they then bashed themselves to death on the wheel rim, not happy Jan. 3 of the 4 units shattered the battery retaining clips, unfixable. Luckily I got a full refund. If you had short non flexing rubber valve stems or metal valve stems you may not suffer from my problems.

IMHO, save your money. I have yet to see a TPMS system perform satisfactorily on a 4WD that does a reasonable amount of gnarly stuff.

Mine had an "internal" sensor TPMS on it when I bought it and the best I could ever get working was 3 out of 4... dismount the tyre and get the dodgy one going and another would promptly crap out... was a total PITA and is now landfill

Thanks for the info fellas, seems as though they won't hold up to the punishement i will give them, might have to do it the old fashioned way and get a good guage. Its a hard life. Lucky i have an air locker and compressor!
