3.0L 'whitey' Patrol

Hello, thought I would introduce my Patrol

'04 GUIII ST 3.0L ST

Bought this time last year with around 180K on the clock, now up to 202K

Pretty much set up for touring when I bought it including:

- 3" OME lift
- TJM bullbar, side steps and side bars
- dual battery setup (need to replace 2nd battery)
- UHF
- factory snorkel
- aftermarket cruise control
- factory (I think) in car DVD player for rear seats
- spotties
- reverse camera
- electronic braking system

I've added 33" Mickey Thompson ATZ tyres and boost and egt gauges in pillar pod

Things I want to do:

- finish NADS (egr plate on the way, catch, dawes and needle to follow)
- MSA canvas seat covers
- accessories (highlift jack, decent compressor)
- fix 2nd battery and check system (maybe an in car monitoring system)
- Beaudesert 2.75" exhaust and CC intercooler when funds allow
- and maybe want to go down the rooftop tent path so probably a Tigerz11 roofrack and rooftop tent...
- maybe Tigerz11 winch if I think I'll need it


Just trying to find $$ at the moment in between saving for travelling and a house (sigh...)

Any comments or suggestions most welcome

That pillar pod you've got, how do you find it? I've heard people say that they have to slouch down to read them properly.

Whats the screen next to your gauges? Reverse camera?

Teno, I bought the pillar pod from Extreme Limits Offroad (one of the vendors on Patrol4x4 forum). It was about $90 from memory and came in black plastic, so I needed to cut the holes (you'll need a 52mm hole saw) and paint (I used a plastic primer and then a few coats of colour from the spray packs at Sprint Auto Parts $15 a can). I bought the Autometer boost and egt gauges from another bloke off the other forum and had Cross Country 4x4 install everything for me.

I am 6'5 and find the viewing very good. The boost gauge is the bottom one and '20' is blocked from my regular driving position but mine will only occasionally spike to this and is usually no higher than 15-16 for longer periods (without dawes valve). My main concern is keeping an eye on EGT and this has 100% visibility. The gauges themselves are very easy to read day and night.

I have seen a brand of pillar pod that faces more out the window and not 'square' to the driver so this is what I would look out for. As long as it's facing square to you it should be fine.

Yes, screen next to gauges is reverse camera, this was closer to the corner but needed to be moved slightly when the gauges were installed.

I was in Torquay over Easter for the Rip Curl Pro and drove back the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide and it was very interesting keeping an eye on the gauges. Cruising at 110 km/h EGT sat just a tick under 500 deg and around 450 for 100 km/h. Also, you soon realise the boost has a mind of its own, it's all over the place at constant speeds which increases or decreases the EGT. Need to get a dawes valve fitted asap for more consistent boost pressures.

All up the Patrol did great and handled very well through the winding roads of the Otway Ranges and Ocean Road. I tried to drive accordingly with EGTs in mind at all times (eg. not flooring it up hills etc)
