    Drill bits

Can anyone suggest any good drill bits, various sizes.

In the past I've bought Sutton / Frost, but they're getting so damn expensive. I always break the small ones and end up with 50 gazillion big ones. I'm wondering if it's worth me buying some cheap chinese titanium/uranium/can't be busted/super assed tough as guts ones off eBay.

Or am I wasting my money?

What about drill bit sharpeners? They worth getting or do they just stuff up?

For steel onsite @10G mate we use these Dewalt ones in our little game.

Used to buy them for under $100 per kit ‘direct’ from the Dewalt service centre in Chirnside Park-Vic. They’ve since moved to the other side of town so need to find out where as we’re also due to restock up.
Great things they are as the Torpedo Pilot drill tips save heaps of time out there although inexperienced hands still do snap the poor buggers.
Dewalt IMO also make the best reciprocating saw blades for steel too, pack of 5 are under half Suttons or any other Yankys 2 pack prices and last 4 times as long proven to us

You basically need to stop regularly breaking drill bits. Also, learning to sharpen drill bits is a good skill to have, as you can regrind it

I bought that $20 bunnings junk set (for the container more than anything). They are junk, made from inferior material. https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftrig...t-set_p0019576

I spend the extra and buy packs of 10 5mm or 3mm (for example) sutton bits to fill the container. They're a much better drill bit and when looked after they last

My Christmas present for myself was a 'drill doctor' drill sharpener. It's a good unit.

Persuading MrsTea to buy me a 'Drill Doctor' for Christmas some years back has saved me heaps in not having to buy replacement drills, & made life so much more convenient.

For smaller drills I buy the short double ended packs of 10 which seem to last for ages & can still be used when you break one. I don't try to sharpen them. Seem to be far more durable than other small size drill bits. I get the sizes to suit the rivet sizes I use, but frequently (almost always) use these drills to drill pilot holes in metal which gives the next size up drill a much easier time.

Hmm, Drill Doctor, that's the sort of thing I reckon I need, I have zillions of blunt 5mm+ bits lying around, I used to just go and buy another pack of bits but it's getting out of hand.

    Thanks forks for the help.

One of the first things I learnt to do as an apprentice and the only thing I can do left handed. Sharpen drills off hand.

I'm getting good at sharpening drills using an angle grinder when I'm on site lol. People look at me funny.

In actual fact though. Using a flap disk on a drill bit that already has nice even, not chipped cutting edges produces a surprisingly sharp drill.

    Lol. I've done that before.
Any flat surface will work There's alot in sharping to the correct angle and when done right it's like a hot knife in butter.
