Works much better retracting when removed now.
Pop a how-to thread up Crem. There would be plenty of people here with this problem.
What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal??

Sure. I didn't take any photos when I did it, but after the success (and relative simplicity) I intend to do the same to the passenger side, so I'll document that when I get to it.

Watching with interest here.
My drivers side is really bed. There is major dents between the door and body where I've shut the door and the metal buckle got jammed in there after NOT retracting.

First step when playing with the retractor - BUY LOTS OF BANDAIDS !!!! My fingers still have the scars from when I tried to do that.
Seatsafe sell a great replacement. I bought mine in 2012 and they are still working great.

Thanks Crem that's a good write up. I'll have to study your process a couple more times until it sinks in, but I'd like to do this. Haven't had good retraction since I bought it 12 years ago!!
IMO this how-to should also be in its own separate thread as its a bit hidden here. A very common Patrol problem that people would likely be searching for a solution. Can a mod copy this into a dedicated thread? @AB
Thanks Cremulator great info mate!

Yeh I was really worried about trying this the first time as I didn't want to mess up the retractor, but it's actually really easy once you pull the tensioner out. As long as you don't let go of the spool when the belt is removed and let it unwind, you'll be fine.
@threedogs Patrolapart sell belts for the GU series 4 - $234.00 (on sale from $300.21). You might have to check with them on your specific interior colour code.
