Westy , I will be doing the strezleki track after Cameron corner, bit of a double back but I’ve been checking tracks, and I’ll be doin a bit in the flinders ranges on way back. I’ll probably drag my van to port Augusta and leave it at my cousins and find another way home with the van

The 747
That's the way we came back last time and it was a pretty cool part of the trip.
We are tossing up between going that way or the Birdsville track into the Flinders.
Just been looking through my logs from the last Simpson crossing and my GQ used 19.25L/100km during the crossing which was 720km from Mt Dare to Birdsville.
Has anybody got any fuel consumption figures for a crossing in a modern 4cyl turbo diesel car? The standard fuel tank in the MUX is 80L and I was hoping to carry 2x 20L jerry cans.
Do we have a rough plan for the crossing itself, ie French line the whole way? Etc.

The 747
It's no different to a Y62 or 200 series which I would bet there would be 20 of those vehicles crossing every day to 1 GQ.
The whole point of us buying this car was to get it set up for these kinds of trips, much more room inside and infinitely more comfortable. The GQ is for high country/boys/hunting trips now. The kids are getting bigger and I'm running out of space.
Times change.
