Best intercooler for 230whp application. Td42ti

    G’day all,

I’m the market for a new intercooler. Thinking W2A
As I don’t want to cut the bonnet. What has worked best for a
230whp application, my engine has a new style UFI Td05-18g and DC6 fuel pump fitted.
(2006 Gu patrol Ute) currently running a 600x400x75 FMIC, works extremely well
But I have noticed some pinholes and I get nervous about the winch punching a hole in it out
Bush if I smack a roo hard enough.

Have got a quote in a 4x8” PWR tube style for roughly $1600,
    They claim 290hp/390cfm capacity.

Thanks for your help/advice in advance!

No more than 2deg difference one side of IC to the other.

    It's the type 10 12.5x12.5x4.5

Be aware tho I 'had to lift the body by 25mm to get the bonnet to close with enough clearance for tourque roll. Missed by that much 99 !

390 cfm is barely enough air for a naturally aspirated TD, let alone a TD42t with some real boost. The PWR barrel type W2A is less than Ideal.
The frozen boost stuff isn't the best on the market, but it has been used plenty of times with success and is good value for money.
You could go to the top shelf and get an A.R.E w2a, but they cost $5k.
A decent w2a or a decent front mount is the way to go.

Thanks for the info mate, alarm bells were ringing when i looked over the quote from PWR because it was soo generic! they don't specify an application for the product (diesel/petrol/conditions etc) just a 'hp' rating. I think i will just replace my current intercooler with the same again... its done alot of k's of hard off roading, wear is to be expected i suppose. Have you used an A.R.E cooler yourself? i haven't heard a bad thing about any of their products!

I have an A.R.E W2A, had it for about 6 years. It's very well made. The pic is in my signature
