Ha ha. I can feel the frustration from here. If I turned up with a big ticket item like a van, without the obligatory discussion with my better half, I would end up living in it, alone.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Understand your point, so why waste peoples time if she'll say no anyway.

Might ask her the right question on the right day. Yes. I agree it is a waste of your time, and it is a nuisance.
There has been so many times I have found an item that is just a plain bargain which can't be passed over, but the answer has been no.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Sir Roofy , some couples remain independent with decisions and some don't , I'm not sure how the latter works it would drive me crazy and I would have been divorced long ago .
I know a few couples who operate that way so it does work for some .

Yes the previous owners are again wiping their hands.
No point in ringing the council, they won't budge. The letter is addressed to us so they know whats going on. We are ringing our conveyancer tomorrow, for the second major issue, the first is our missing 41k, to see if they can sort this out. As the way I see it, I should not have to pay for the storm water repairs, as we did not own the property until March, and as I said, no mention of this in the section 32 and also at the auction.
Just another head fark! I think I'm nearing breaking point. I've already drunk a bottle of wine since 5.30 and ready to neck the Jack. Which aint helping with the heart palpitations I have. If you see me on the news for going ballistic at someone and ramming my Patrol into a shop or car. You will know why.
Hey Mark sorry to hear about your dramas - what department from council sent you the letter?
I'd still give them a call and try to appeal for leniency, the fact that the letter was addressed to you does not necessarily mean they know you moved in recently, just that's the address their data base gave them to send a letter -- it's pretty poor to expect a new owner to complete works within 60 days without any prior discussion. Feel free to give me a call to chat more

Nathan I have no idea, the wife has taken the paperwork with her to work so she can discuss it with the conveyencer. I did see in all the paperwork a letter head addressed to the old owners though...
If we have no legal leg to stand on and we are forced to pay for this, then I will ring the council. Just looking around at what the council has listed that isn't there, and should be, and needs to be attended too, it look like some of them have been fixed. As one on the list was the downpipe spout on the rear awning, as they called it, was not connected to the storm water. And a half arsed attempt for the down pipe on the front of the house which i have already fixed properly myself. I just checked the rear pipe and it is, and looks to be fairly new piping there. So I think the old owner knew of this letter, but as usual, was just too lazy to do anything about it.
So the fight (another fight) begins. Ready for round three.
I swear if i see this cock snot in the street I will kick him in the nuts!
