Alrighty, had only a brief 2 minute chat with an employee of the GU Shorty owner over here.
Turns out the UK chassis was unregisterable here (unsure why) so they transplanted the shell atop of a heavily modified and expensive engineered Aussie LWB chassis. If works done by others estimated efforts put in was $75k AUD!

That seems really strange. Who in their right mind would spend that kind of money, and effort, for this? I have seen them for sale a couple of times on Carsales for around half that, and with a RWC and registered. Just doesn't add up.
Having said that. I still want one!

No-one... but... I think the clue is in MBs post about "if work was done by others" IE if the modifier has a business and/or the skills to DIY a majority of the work than the number is moot.
I know of a rig (Duramax, Portals etc etc) that would have at least 150,000 maybe even 200,000 bucks worth of mods and time in it now if it was costed out at commercial rates.

Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Unsure mate and was only a brief chat as mentioned. Does sound like the owner did it properly though and all was kept above board!

You'd be right on the money then mate. Need to cut and shut an aussie LWB chassis, get it engineered, etc. I'd reckon better importing from NZ then. Seen them on the roads over there.

Quite possibly gents, will see if I can quiz the owner directly next time passing through that way. I only ‘assumed’ it was a numbers issue as Vic roads have been giving me all sorts of grief with our Japanese Patrol Firetruck too. The numbers are a few digits less and different config to Aussie numbers so their magical computers keep saying no go. I’ve been instructed to seek consultation now from a private ADR inspector off the local list they sent me.
