Not sure if it's the same for GU's, but I had a weird issue a while back kinda similar to yours. I believe in the GQ, from what I could find/research etc, that there's a common earth that runs into the dash and controls a lot of these.
Mine was frayed in the engine bay and caused me some issues like these, I replaced the bad bit of wire and all good since.
Not sure if it helps, but food for thought.

Patrol Guru
I had an occasional fuse "pop" when I had the camper plugged in, seems that at times 10 amp was exceeded (flashers turned on?), auto elec said it was fine to put a 15 amp fuse in (having checked there were no other issues), never had a problem with the trailer attached since.
Note: I would only up the fuse if confident that the load on the circuit was a "legitimate" load and not another "issue". and that he wiring could take it (as advised by a qualified auto elec).
Time Marches On .....and on ..... and on

At this stage everything mentioned is worth pursuing, even if it ends up all good.
The Patrol it self hasn't changed all that much in 20 yrs. lol

He has put in a 15 amp fuse just to get by but it pop that as well.
So went back to 10amps.
