    TB42e No power on Petrol

    Hi All

My TB42e just doesn't like running on petrol. It runs GREAT on LPG but as soon as I switch over to petrol it dies. I bought it like that recently so not much history I can add.

My LPG system starts on petrol and that seems to work fine. It just doesn't seem to have any power and is very rough at anything other than idle. Feels like it's starving for fuel, but I'm not really sure on that one. If I'm goin slow in 1st gear and push my foot right down it seems to run a bit smoother but still gutless and rough.

My maxmium speed is about 60km/hr on petrol.

I think it might possibly be the fuel pressure regulator or the pump or maybe the filter? Is there an easy way to test them without a fuel pressure guage?

    Any ideas glady accepted.

    cheers
    Damo

    Gday Damo.

One thing you can do is change the fuel filter, fill up on 98 octane, drop 2 bottles of injector cleaner and go an find a good run where you work the engine, some long decent hills, nice and slow. That should at least clean everything out.

also - the gas systems seem to have a bad habit of having shyte wiring

grab a packet of connectors and a crimping tool, and start replacing all the plugs
cut the old one off, clean the wire, fit a new connector

also check your earths from the battery, from the dizzy, clean and re-crimp if needed

Any recommendations for a brand of cleaner. I think this may help. I did change the filter as its only $30 but the old one seemed pretty clean. It is running better after that, but I suspect it is just clearing itself with more running. I've just bought the car and it seems it has sat for a long time prior to me buyng it.

I just swapped out some carby fuel line that burst. I have an EFI car. I was hoping that was the reason for it running poorly. I've got an aftermarket fuel tank in it and it seems like a POOR job was done installing it. I'm thinking that a good look at that wouldn't hurt.

I'm not too worried if it is the fuel pump. Gives me an excuse to upgrade ready for a ford barra conversion in the future.

    cheers

I've used nylon before, but any reputable brand will do.

I would continue on with the basics and the least expensive first. Then go over what the previous owner did in regards to the petrol tank.

Must admit I was a little disappointed to read your last sentence.

That will be for when I've finished studying and can afford to make it into a REAL toy. My motor runs so sweet I'm not really wanting to swap it out. The car has only done 220K. Would be Nice to have it running well on petrol so I have a lot more range. Only got a 60L LPG Tank.

So the additives made a diffeence you could notice too?

Yeah, I try to run a higher octane as often as I can and some cleaner whenever I remember.

I use to run on petrol once a week about 25km to work. Mine is a automatic switch over as well. Seems to run better.

See if you can fit a larger tank. Mines 115L don't know if that will go in a gq @dom ?

Yeah. I'm gonna have to phone around and see if someone can do that for me without charging an arm and a leg.
