Exponential Growth of Technology
Can the above save us???!!!
This fella seems to think so.
The stats he produce was pretty amazing, particularly the crazy drop of price of genome sequencing. The price has dropped from 2.7 billion in 1999 to a mere nothing in two years time from now. Right now it's around a grand.
Then look at how long it took to have a super computer in our palms.
I like the bloke's optimism more than anything else. Kinda helps with my depression about our future.

For those who wish to sequence their genome, for health reasons.
Who knows! Sequencing the genome and getting a health predicting report based on that might mean dramatically extending the lifespan(if action is taken )

Won't surprise me. There always is a commercial message hidden somewhere.
TedX itself can be. Capitalism at it's "best".

Technology can save us. When we decide to stop focusing on using it to supply us with luxuries and start using it to make an actual difference.

Yeah, but the reason for success of capitalism and we don't give a damn about "share cropping"(communism) is that we like our gadgets and comforts, or rather we are addicted to them. It appears it's not in our nature to be happy with what we have or be happy our neighbours have the same possessions as us.
Technology most certainly can save us & considering the mess we've got ourselves into since the renaissance. Technology might be the only thing that can get us out of the mess we are in. For example solutions for population growth, climate change, etc can be partially or completely addressed using the technology. Thing is that our addictions and self destructive nature can get in the way.
But, either way, I like the optimism. It's depressing enough as it is, having to think about these problems in addition to get through each day.

Methinks some worry too much , worrying about something you have no control over will give you ulcers and one day someone will find you in the corner of your shed peeling the chrome off a Sidchrome shifter muttering something about aliens .
