@Rossco sorted, it was set on open squelsh (small speaker button on front panel was pushed in), allowed for all signal (atmospheric _ white noise) to be heard.
SQUELCH
Page 12 of manual
The Squelch is used to eliminate any annoying
background noise when there are no signals
present. The Squelch can be opened or closed by
pressing the key. When the Squelch is open
the receiver’s background noise can be heard and
the icon is displayed on the LCD. When the
Squelch is closed the receiver remains quiet while
there are no signals present but any incoming
signals will override the Squelch and be heard in
the speaker.
Man, I love the GU4 center dash part! What is all that stuff going on there? Can you give me a brief tour on all those gauges and modules and stuff you got there?

Gadgets that sometimes put my head into a deeper state of confusion haha
You see part of the journey, now from bottom going up:
The radios are self explanatory.
Just above mic is an indicator (led/alarm) for the Water Watch _ diesel/water separator. hthttps://www.waterindiesel.com.au/tp://
Above hazard light is the Kings _ Throttle Control Unit: alters TPS signal sent to ECU/ECM (not used currently). Can work well with CRD drive by wire setup.
Round dial gauge is used to measure vacuum @ the VNT turbo actuator diaphragm (real time) actuator rod position which indicates the VNT vane aperture opening positioning within limits set. Vac gauge also shows the change rate of the vanes aperture relative to boost pressure and MAF voltage (MAF V measures by the multi meter at top of dash). MAF voltage is taken from MAF sensor (back probe connector or as I now have spliced into ECM harness). MAF voltage correlates to MAF rate (g/s) measured.
I play/trial with various boost control methods.
By the way the other two (in counsel cutout), the aux/main battery monitor plus electronic brake controller for tow.
Out of sight the (usual): EGT, Boost(relative), Oil and scan gauge.
Well Done Stroppstar, they look Strong As
If it’s not too late are they able to infill them for you with say Checker or small hole Dimple Die plate?
I really wish I had of taken that option on my open GU ute ones years ago.
Have nearly Can Opened the lower sills on mine twice in ruts with sticks that pricks inlay to get height clearance through.
Our front tyres pop them up and they spear head in between open sliders like mine and if unnoticed in time or too fast it’s a lower panel/door disaster

Being a devoted Vegan/Cyclist, I unfortunately/finally ran out of crop space, shared country water too, to keep up my brain proteins growth mega hectares per 3,000m2 needed hourly ( 1 skinny man per x mega 3 hyper dramatic tarts)
Had to sadly employ a barbaric shooter to keep the Indian Minor’s from pecking on my Foxy friends back whilst he was protecting my foreign crops from being attacked by the cutest Bunnies me and my 3 wives have ever seen
