Georges other argument was Petty's are cheaper to maintain and easier to maintain. Easier to fix when something goes wrong and with the same power as a td42

Bang for buck as above mate and George is on the money, parts galore for petty 5.7L Chev’s. IMO they really are a great local hills motor for you if the timing is kept stock, don’t get a pimped up lumpy street cam donk.

Mate it's a carnt for sure.
But honestly mate i was in the same boat with my zd at 110 thou.
They pulled the head off and were convinced it was cracked as the gasket looked fine.
Crack and pressure tested head.mate and come back 100%.
New gasket in and happy days.
However..
Got the pathy v6 now and I was the same pertols are easier..
Turns out I have an exhaust issue (running rich).
The computer scan can't pick if it's cats or up line further.
So pulling spark plugs Sunday to see if I can find a rich cylinder.
Brother will check fuel pressure..
And at the end of it all it may be $2500 in cat replacement....
So patrols ain't all happy days..
I've had this car a week.....

Bugger mate that is really shit!!! All the more reason I'm leaning/choosing to keep the car and change the motor, all cars are a gamble, I figure I know my car has been very reliable, I've just got a turd of a motor. Piss that off, should be problem solved. Better the devil you know right?

Definitely. Gotta remember a vehicle is just a collection of parts that wear out. At least you know which parts have been properly serviced or are near on buggered.

Damn mate not good, im sure you'll work ou what path you want to go down eventually.
I was at this cross road 2 years ago.
In the end i opted for the barra due to its excellent low down torque, power and reliability... The barra also has great potential to get good power with minimal mods and i will be happy to answer any questionsif need be... if you're in melbourne i am also happy to take you out for a drive...
Since i did the conversion 2 years ago it has done 2 weeks in tassies west coast , snow trips, Victorian high country numerous times and plenty of long distance travels including some nav run events...
To be honest with you ive had 1 problem (electrical issue) where it left me in the bush but wasmt related to the engine but apart from that its been fanasticif youre happy to go against the grain as its something different...
It is not as common as the ls which means there is probably less info on it but these days more and more people are doing them if you check out the barra patrols page on Facey.
The ls is also a vsry sensational engine and conversion with heaps more info out there and kits available... nothing sounds like a v8 but truth be told i love driving this thing like miss daisy and no one bats an eyelid until you smoke them off the lights...
Best of luck
