Bought a Carter 4600HP electric pump, should be able to install it this weekend to see if it makes much difference with my old worn out mechanical pump.

Run it via relay mate so that it only comes on when you get oil pressure. So then you can still have the ignition on, no motor running, and the pump wont operate. If your motor has the switch and not the sender unit that is. Not sure how to wire it up using the sender. Also run a fuel line by pass too so if the pump dies the pump can still suck the fuel through.

I believe with this Carter pump that fuel can flow freely even if the pump has failed.
I will just wire it to ignition, I can't think of a time I have had the car switched to ignition without the engine running anyway.

Is it to late for you to swap to a 4601hp?
Wiring to ignition is fine. Makes services easy for priming the fuel filter prior to starting.

Damn, yeah it is.
From what I can tell the only difference between the 4600hp and the 4601hp is the pump pressure?

Yes it can but being a rotary vane pump there still is a chance of the vanes blocking the fuel path if the pump stops. Also if the pump fails there might be a small loss in top end rev power due to the extra route the fuel needs to take. The by pass was easy to do though...
