Cummins 6BT Conversion...
Hey everyone,
Sorta new to the forum ! i have purchased a GQ tb4.2 manual and i think its time to do a conversion. I have done some research on the td4.2 and how everyone raves about them in GQ's. (apart from weight, length etc.) these 6BT's are pretty damn awesome. So my question is that if anyone has done this conversion or been around when someone else has and know if it is do-able without crazy amounts of mods in a GQ body ?
Thanks,
-J

If you get an auto motive spec b series with an sae 3 bell if can cut down a lot of head aches. They are an awesome engine but can be a bit noisey for some under the bonnet

My brother has a 6bt in his shed that he's slotting into his 80..
I have read they need a body lift as they are quite a tall engine..
Long stroke so slow rpm..
Have also read the you'll need to decrease the drive ratios..
So like instead of stock 4.1's you'll need to drop to 3.9's to get top end speed..

Governed rpm of a 6b is 3400rpm max. But this is dependant on spec with 2800rpm being much more common. So definitely would require diff gears

Marine spec b has a governed speed around 4K, but they also have balance shafts fitted, not possible with an automotive spec sump as the balance shaft housing sits below the crank. Not sure I'd turn a stock internal b to 4K. Would be nice to have the 6BTM but, 380hp, 800ftlb out of the box.
