Nic, the second shot is the rear view of the first shot, so you think this is partially closed? the third is just the catch bar in the bonnet for reference. I can push the catch downwards, but not so the throat of the catch itself is empty. I was hoping somone could check and post a photo of the catch on an operating bonnet catch for reference? Its a total mongrel to push the plate downwards, and going backwards looks impossible - maybe its faulty?

Thanks Chris, totally over it right now. Such a bloody simple job turned to custard and simply can't find the issue - no doubt staring me right in the face. The 6mm packers under the hinges look nice and discrete when the bonnet is closed, however there is a nice little heat vent generated which will help my under bonnet temps for sure. was going to do this quick job then knock off the bilge fan installation also, but now back at square 1 after the day. Bugger bugger.....

Thanks Nic,
I think that is essentially what i have, but for some reason the bonnet hits the striker plate and does no go downwards enough to allow the catcher to close down on the bonnet bar - I cannot find any interference - baffling but will be simple. i have pulled the unit off the car and can't fault it. I will have another 'mum' look tomorrow and hope the culprit will be discovered. The bonnet is back in place without the spacers as well and still not closing, nothing left on the side boards or obvious.

Ok, can suggest you try inserting something similar to the rod, like a larger screwdriver and see if the action works? Then perhaps remove bump stops on each corner and work back from there? Maybe even see if you set your phone camera to record and close the bonnet to see what it is doing?

I remember having a similar issue not very long ago. It confused me for 5 mins and in the end I think I just slammed it shut harder. I don't actually know what went wrong but it has only ever played up that once and been fine since.
