I have a HEMA 5 and agree the weak point is the cable due to its orientation. I had trouble keeping it connected for charging, so simply bought another cable as the original got loose, then made sure when I located it, there was adequate room for the cable to flex - problem solved for me. Apart from the screen size being smallish, my unit works well.

Never had a Hema or VMS type device, I have an old iPad with the GPS built in, it works very well.
But a great cheap navigation tool I came across is an app called Avenza Maps. The App is free for Android & iPhone. You can get free Geosurvey Australia (or whatever they're called) maps for it and then you have a free navigation tool. You can also buy most maps from their store to use with it as well. I've bought a Hema and a Westprint for it. It works very well.
As a price example, I used it when I recently crossed the Simpson, I used Hema's Simpson Desert 500K map. All up I had a navigation tool that cost $11.95.
Very hard to go past if you'd like a GPS navigation aid and you don't have much $$$$ to spend on one. If I were starting out and had no GPS navy stuff, I'd get a cheapish Android tablet with GPS capabilities, throw that app on it and away you go.

Yeah that's what I should have done ,the navigators from Hema and VMS work well when and if their working .
Started on the stereo install but hit my third snag ,new unit doesn't allow for six speakers and the old one only has five sets of wires for six speakers so some surgery required to find out what's going on .
Little bit worried about the retractable screen and hope I've allowed enough for it to slide out and flip up without hitting the stubbie lever and the dash above it .
Must take some photos

Hema just contacted me and the fee for fixing it is $99 so not as much as first thought but still pissed because if I get it fixed I know it will shit itself again in one to three years .

Spent the last few day doing stuff the the shitter, So I had the the top mount IC off, I needed to replace the drain hose on the catch can, so I removed it, replaced it, and refitted it. Got the new radiator in, new fan belts on, got sunburnt etc etc. Bled the cooling system and thought I was done. Then I saw a small hose clamp on the bull bar. I then realised it was the hose clamp for the catch can hose barb on the rocker cover. So I need to removed the CC top mount cooler, just to get this bloody hose clamp on.
Not much you think, but when you've been at it for the better part of three days and you think you have finished....Blah! Time for another whiskey!
