RPM or EGT or ECT which is the worry?

Somedays I have to go up a hill within 2-3 minutes of starting the ZD30 CRD. It's not a big hill, not long nor especially steep, but the engine coolant temp (ECT) is still low, high 50s low 60s and going up this hill, the EGTs can get to around 470.

This has got me thinking, do the EGTs get too high too soon after starting the motor???? Could this be a bad thing????

I've been dropping back a cog, this drops the EGTs but then the RPMs go up, around 3000. This has got me thinking, could this be a bad thing with the engine still not warmed up????

I'm trying to be kind to my motor as much as I can, especially when cold and these things make me wonder.

I'm keen to hear what those with more knowledge think.

How long is the hill? 470 isn't that high I am led to believe for a CRD.

It's not long, take me maybe 10-12 secs to crest it at 80-100kmh.

I think I recall asking a similar question here once, having to leave our quiet road & get up to speed on the highway with engine still cold & traffic coming up behind me at 100kph. Matt (NissanNewby) answered - someone who's advice I particularly value on all things mechanical, & told me not to worry about it, just get it up to temperature as soon as I could. Better to do so driving up the hill than sitting at home idling it to warm it up first.

I can't see there being an issue.
