We use it in laminated sheet form for play panels with CNC routed fun pictures/games.
Many boats/tenders are starting to utilise molded HDPE too as it’s unsinkable and great for beach/reef landing smashing strength.

HDMWPE - High Density Molecular Weight Poly Ethylene

Good idea for the plate however needs a frame to support it. Also, its a lot thicker than the 4mm sheet, so you lose clearance.

They are two sheets welde together. The first sheet is flat and replicates the tank base. The second sheet is angled 8 deg upwards and the mount plate on the tow are is bent down 8 degrees. To do the bend without a press I cut a slot thru the sheet leaving 20mm at each end as a hinge. I then simply put the sheet in the vice and used a 15" shifter to bend it down. From there I fitted the tank sheet to the car, then mounted the tow bar plate, jacking the two plates upwards until they met. I then tack welded the two sheets together and left the car overnight as wanted a slow cool on the tacks for max strength. Next morning I unbolted the bash plate and then stitched a couple of temp braces onto the angled plate for total stability, then welded it out, ground out the braces and put the rubber sheet on, painted and fixed it in place. Bingo, all done!

Ah I see! Great written description, makes perfect sense. Bending with a vice and large hammer is how I've been doing smaller projects, but the cutting with hinged ends is a clever approach
