    Stainless steel cable tie Tool

Anyone using a proper tool for stainless cable ties?

I tried to do some with just a set of pliers and it was darn difficult. Also I couldn't cut the end of very close and the bit left sticking out of the tie is extremely sharp. I've looked on eBay for a tool and there's toms around $45-50 and then some around $100.

I'm just wondering if anyone uses the $45 ones? Are they any good? Can anyone recommend something or some way of tightening and cutting these things without the proper tool???

    TIA.

I have one of the more expensive commercial ones, couple of hundred, does a great job but it is to some degree in the skill of the operator as well. Biggest issue for me is the trimming of the tail after its clipped to not get a sharp knuckle shredding edge. I fold my 'tails' over and peen them down with a hammer.

We use the Band-it version at work, various sizes. I've got the smaller version at home, not sure what size maybe 4mm. Bloody strong stuff, especially the 16mm+ version we use around concrete poles.
We lifted a 1.4t pole with one layer on 12mm band and it held "Do not try this at home".

I never actually had to use it for anything around home, but I can see how this can easily become a bush fix utility to clamp something together around chassis, or something...

I use some stainless ties on a PVC tube on my roof rack, had lots of trouble tensioning the tie with a set of pliers, darn thing just kept spinning around.

I wonder if there is a cheaper alternative to these tools?

    I did find this - https://www.cabac.com.au/product-specs/16450505/SSTDT

Tried putting some gripping material under the tie? Like a bit of bike tyre tube for example? This makes it grip tighter and stops it from spinning around.

Good trick to use with the light bar mounts on the bull bar , thanks again @Plasnart

That's a good idea Hodge, I might also try just some good old electrical tape, I reckon that might work as well.

Just for some more info for others, here's a clip on how you can tighten SS ties without the special tools, ends up with a good result I reckon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecS2ZwjWo-g
