Got some new glow plugs in the mail today. Pulled the current ones out tested the resistance and they were all the same, even as the new ones. Then put them on 12v and they all seemed to work so who knows. I put the new ones in anyway while I was there.

Lots of things can contribute to poor glow.
Poor earth from rail
Poor contact from rail to plug
Top nuts slightly loose.
While we did the valve gaps on my old td42 me Bro pulled my rail off and gave each nut an point of contact on the rail a light wire brush..
Made a noticeable difference on the cold mornings..

Yeah true that. Connections all were all good and tight, rail was relatively clean but I did give it a wipe and contact patches a slight rub so could have just needed that. Thought about putting old ones back in and seeing about that but figured while I had the new ones there might as bloody well put em in.

Tips were perfect. Sooted up a little but i figured that is normal after its been running. Once I test glowed them the soot burnt off and they got red hot.

So..
Why did you change them?
What issues are your experiencing?
Did the new ones make any difference?

Did you think it was time for a change?
My OE ones lasted just on 200K
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

Basically changed them as I figured they are cheap enough (compared to injectors which are on the maintenance wish list) and was having a bit of rough starting especially cold mornings. Puff of white out back and for the first 10m down the road it would sometimes miss. After 10-50m it was fine. Would still start first go after glow usually within 2-3 starter turns. But just not smooth as if 4 or 5 cylinders only firing until heat got in? Once running it was fine smooth as and no misses.
So far the only cold start I did with it I forgot to take notice. However I don't recall it been a rough one. As its been sitting for a couple of days now I'm looking forward to seeing if it has made a difference or if it might be a leaky injector?

Fair enough.. not wrong about injectors price..
But if your getting rough start and white smoke you may have a faulty one..
