Got a phone call from the daughter just after 9 tonight her car wouldn't start and she was in town at a supermarket , so I get a DAD help call .
Turned out the original 2011 battery just died in the Holden Cruise ,rip off buggers at the local 24 hour servo had one that would do but $259 ffs so she bought it and it was a shit of a job the bloody pos terminal bolt was locktite in so bad it was bending the friggin bolt and the plastic shroud on top of the battery didn't want to pop off either .
After about a half hour of stuffing around got the the new battery in car started all good drove home behind the daughter about 14 kilometres from town and she pulled and got out yelling dad there's smoke coming from the front and at first glance I thought shit so yelled open the bonnet and raced into the shed for an extinguisher and side cutters prepared to just cut the positive wire .
I must have snapped one of the pissy expansion tank return hoses off at the tank so it was steam not water so I'm hoping it hasn't stuffed the motor will look in the morning ,worst part is it was booked in for a service on Monday .

Still water in the system so I'm hoping all ok my mechanic thinks it should be right and now I've discovered a fault with these cars and the alternator charging output caused by a faulty crimp on the negative battery clamp .
Noticed it was putting out 15 volt after we got it started and thought shit that's high ,apparently it sees the high voltage and compensates the charge so in effect pumping bugger all into the battery but will get mech to check that out .
Biggest piss me off was the car has been to two different dealers and a specialist auto place to try and fix the pig rooting it does at low (around 40ks) speed , I've fixed it just by leaving the battery disconnected for 20 mins so thanks Holden for knowing sweet FA about your cars just like Ford .

Reminds me of the time my daughter took her Barina into the local Holden dealer and was told she needed a new battery, so off she went then car was dead flat the next day. I opened the bonnet to a rotten burnt smell and noticed the head liner/insulation on under the bonnet was charred. Bloody battery was too tall for the car - incorrect fit and was jammed up against the bonnet, Closer inspection showed a heat mark on the outside of the bonnet, so back it went to the dealer and they paid for the repairs and towing etc, no idea what the outcome of damage was, but the incompetence and lack of detail was astounding. I am sure someone got their butt kicked.

Got my own back on them went in to buy a new overflow bottle and the only one they had in stock was for another customer so I just pretended I was another customer heh heh ,I notice they solved the issue of the brittle barb by inserting a brass pipe through the barb at manufacture and just $33 .
Not sure if the price reflects guilt for the faulty product or the excessive amount they sell .
Alternator still charging at 15 volts and old battery charged up ok
